How we get diapers for free

So, we're always shocked when people tell us they check our blog regularly. We're a bit partial and think Wilson is just that interesting - and we suspect his grandparents agree. But, everyone else? We even tend to get comments about our garage sale adventures, house siding choices and those great deals we sometimes smugly write about.

We promised a few that we would write when we find one of those great deals but just haven't gotten to it. So here's one - we got several packs of diapers "free" yesterday. It all starts with neurotically listing out the price/oz. of formula and price/diaper (tip: Costco and Sams rarely win this deal if you have the patience to be a bit industrious).

We scoped out the 23.2 oz can of formula and 40 pack size 2 Huggies at Walgreens. The diapers are currently on sale for $9.99 and the formula is $24.94. No amazing deals there, especially since diaper prices have gone up. But, throw in a manufacturers coupon for $1.50 off Huggies and it's a bit better. We also have four $5 checks for formula we need to use before they expire today - but we can use those anywhere. Here's the deal - Walgreens offers $2 off formula for this week (it's online and in the weekly flyer). Then, yesterday and today only they offer $5 off a $20 purchase (online coupon). So, once we use those four discounts we have just bought 1/2 price formula, or discounted formula (about 15%) with a free pack of diapers. The bonus? When diapers are part of that brilliant purchase you will get a register receipt for $1.50 off diapers. That means $3 off the next pack at Walgreens with a manufacturer coupon...but don't even think that we will go shopping until the next "$x off of $x" sale when diapers also happen to be on sale.

Just in case you didn't know this--did you know you can use both a manufacturer's coupon AND a store's coupon (Huggies and Target, for example) for the same purchase? I didn't know until recently when a cashier tipped me off to it.
