Here are three cute Wilson moments and one very un-cute Sophie moment.
- Saturday morning while Kevin had intramural basketball Wilson and I went grocery shopping. He did an awesome job and on our way out we stopped at the free mechanical horse for a quick ride. A baby boy was already using it so we waited our turn. When he was done I went through the process of taking him out of the cart, which takes awhile because he doesn't think he's responsible for pulling his legs out of the, um, holes, and so by the time we turned around a little girl had hopped on the horse. To Wilson's dismay. But he managed to wait through her turn and once we got on the horse he started to wimper. I asked him several times if he wanted to ride on the horse and he seemed upset so I put him back in the cart. About 15 seconds after leaving he burst into devastated tears. I was confused but started to feel bad when he stayed devastated for an unusual amount of time. When we got to the car and I was unloading groceries he proclaimed sadly and loudly, "Baby cry!" It was his only way to express his sadness. It broke my heart, even though the scene was also a little funny. He cried all the way home and he rode his rocking horse and felt better.
- Wilson is a beggar. I've never captured that in writing. Take this morning for instance. He had breakfast, delicious banana/peanut butter breakfast cookies (more to come on those), fruit and juice. He was full. But Kevin made toad-in-the-holes and sat on the couch to eat it on this lazy Sunday morning. Wilson immediately came up and said, "Daddy hug?" Don't be fooled, these hugs are only offered when food is nearby. Immediately after the hug he pointed to the food. "Mmmm. Yummy! Good!" as he puts his face in Kevin's plate.
- Also this morning, Wilson was off playing and came back naked with his clothes in hand and a big smile. This is happening with increase frequency in the mornings when we get him in his crib only to find he has stripped naked, diaper and all. We're grateful when there is just pee in the diaper.
Now on to Sophie. For the last few weeks the only substantial amount of time she has been home alone is when we are at church Saturday nights. She has been doing some very uncharacteristically naughty things. Last week when she dug through the garbage for leftovers and strung wrappers through the house, we let it go as a one-time thing. This week when we came home we found that she had knocked a tupperware container off the counter, opened it and ate the entire contents. The contents were 18 of the delicious breakfast cookies I labored over that day. Cookies I spent time on so that during the week it would be easier to give Wilson a semi-healthy breakfast and allow us to get through our morning routine a little easier. When she was done, there were five cookies left - the ones still on the elevated cooling rack. Oh, and she also ate half a hershey's chocolate bar. We called the emergency vet just to make sure this wouldn't kill her. She spent the night in the bathroom in case she vomited. She didn't.
Sophie the wonder-dog is on the verge of being little orphan Sophie.
