First days of school

At the kids' school, we attended 3 total events before the first day of school started.  For Wilson it was a meet the teacher day and dropping off supplies. Evelyn had a "play date" at the park to meet the kids + a day dropping off supplies.

Wilson was dreading going back to school, but so far he doesn't seem to dread school day-to-day at all like last year, and is consistently in a great mood when he is picked up. This teacher told me she "loves boys" and was very in synch with some of the things I suggested might help Wilson to be successful like giving him jobs or breaks to decompress. She also doesn't do a red/yellow/green chart which seems to actually be helping. Although, on his first week of school he came home and told me she put both hands up to her head and said, "What am I going to do with you?!" (laughing/with a smile on her face; she's sweet) when he had been talking too much.  Haha.

Wilson started school two weeks earlier than Evelyn and I accidentally deleted those pictures off of my camera :(. So here they are on Evelyn's first day of school yesterday. This first picture is a classic. It might be worthy of a frame because it is *so* us in this phase of life. Wilson insisting Maribel get in the shot. Holding her unsuccessfully. Maribel without pants because they were too big and fell off.  Drinking her bottle (nigh-nigh, as she calls it). Evelyn obediently smiling for the camera. All of it. <3

Just like last year, Evelyn was super excited to start school.  On some days she will go to aftercare, just because it wouldn't be feasible to make 3 round trips each day for carpool. On the first day, she already insisted on staying for aftercare, and I had to convince her I'd like to pick her up after the first day of school. Afterward we had special time playing a board game and playing movie theater and grocery store in the basement play room.

Last year, despite how much she enjoyed school, she would often cry and plead to come home with me. I'm happy she's a big girl and so excited. But, gulp. Watching her grow up is bittersweet!
