Christmas

This poor, neglected blog. What can I say? Going back to working full-time has been such an eye-opener of what our lives were like before I quit to begin consulting just a year ago. Wow! We're pretty impressed with ourselves when we think of how we pulled daily life together for 6 years. But it's also very clear how much healthier and happier we are when I'm at home more. My contract goes to part-time in two weeks, and we're really looking forward to that.

So, Christmas. The Sunday before Christmas we went to see Santa while Kevin was at the Bears game. Wilson asked Santa for a Lego Indiana Jones game and Evelyn asked him for a Barbie Dream House (ugh!). Santa let Evelyn and Wilson tug his beard to see if it was real. Maribel LOVED Santa and just loved sitting on his lap. She squealed and tried to shove me away when I came to pick her up. She didn't want to leave him.

Many of you know that on our way to Iowa Christmas Eve Maribel got sick. Really sick.

So we stopped at a roadside hotel to give her a bath, pause for a (really bad) Christmas Eve lunch, and then we wrapped her seat in a garbage can and headed home.

Kevin raced around that afternoon getting groceries and grabbing some gifts for them to open Christmas morning (not what they asked for, lol). They were very worried Santa wouldn't know about our change of travel plans since he was already on his sleigh delivering to other parts of the world.

We made the best of things Christmas day. It was a nice, quiet day at home.

But that night, Wilson got the flu. And the next morning, Evelyn. The next morning, Kevin. Then Monday, me. We're still not feeling 100 percent, and are very grateful that the kids had school off and I had some vacation days from work.

Quite the Holiday saga! Good that it went through everyone so quickly.
