Home Sweet Home

I'm home from a short business trip to Champaign, Illinois where my department supports the University of Illinois Pampered Chef Family Resiliency Program. They do all sorts of great research and provide practical tips and resources for families to become more resilient in the face of challenges today. This includes looks into family rituals, such as family mealtime, and how they impact the family, make it stronger and actually reduce the risk of teen drug abuse and other teen pitfalls. There is actually a research home that has hidden cameras that are used to observe relationships and family units in a somewhat natural setting and, of course, it is filled with Pampered Chef products for day to day use.

The trip was to go to a free lecture provided to the community, "Is It Better to Grow Up Later? The New Life Stage of Emerging Adulthood." It was actually very fascinating and will be available online to view within a few days at http://familyresiliency.uiuc.edu/.
